Focus on the digital future

THE HERALD and Sunday Herald, in partnership with Microsoft, will host the third event in the Shaping Scotland's Digital Future series on Tuesday, November 18.

The event, which focuses on education, will consider issues such as how best to inculcate IT skills and entrepreneurship in young people, and its potential positive impact on Scottish businesses.

It will be hosted by Sunday Herald business editor, Colin Donald. He will be joined by a panel of industry experts including Raymond O'Hare (regional director, Microsoft Scotland) and Kirk Ramsay (chief executive, Glasgow Science Centre), as well as young entrepreneurs such as Gylen Boardman, joint managing director of Coriolis Media.

The event, which runs from 8.45am to midday, will include networking and an interactive panel debate. Other panel members include Joe Wilson, business manager at SQA; David Kelly, managing director of the David Kelly Design Office; Iain Lowson of HMIE; Paul Holmes from the Microsoft Internship Programme; Gregor Urquhart, communications director of Young Scot; and pupils from Taylor High School, New Stevenson.

This series of events was launched by the Sunday Herald in December 2007 to explore the actions that need to be taken to establish a "digital blueprint" for Scotland. From the initial event, three key topics for future events were identified: innovation, education and infrastructure. The innovation debate took place in April 2008.
