Creative Scotland: Edinburgh or Glasgow?
Give us your views on where the new arts organisation Creative Scotland should be located

A CAMPAIGN was launched in Edinburgh on Monday, calling for the new national arts agency, Creative Scotland, to be located in the capital rather than Glasgow.

Ewan Aitken, leader of Edinburgh City Council, said it would be "cultural vandalism" to base the organisation anywhere other than Edinburgh because the city is the "cultural capital".

Creative Scotland is being formed by merging the Scottish Arts Council and Scottish Screen. The arts council currently has 90 staff based in the capital while Scottish Screen has 54 staff in Glasgow.

Ministers are due to make an announcement on Creative Scotland's location in the next few weeks.

Give us your comments on where you think the new organisation should be located and/or vote in our online poll - then see our full report this Sunday.

Glasgow is a great city but - and much as I hate agreeing with a politician - Aitken's right. Edinburgh is clearly the cultural capital of Scotland and to think otherwise flys in the face of common sense.

To have EventScotland, VisitScotland and CreativeScotland all operating from the one location seems perfect sense...all their promotion and marketing messages can be linked

I would love the agency to be located in Glasgow,
but agree it is probably better located in Edinburgh. Even though I personally can't stand
Edinburgh.

Why simply Edinburgh or Glasgow? Scottish Executive relocations between one and the other is hardly spreading the wealth is it? Bring it to Dundee - home of Scottish Dance Theatre and a growing Creative Industries sector.

Having traveled throughout the world, I find Edinburgh to be the most delightful city, not only in the UK but anywhere.

I'm just amazed that the poll result so far is going 2-1 in favour of Edinburgh! I know it's been said a milliion times, but for goodness sake how much more arts stuff does Edinburgh need or indeed justify? Besides, Glasgow's vibrancy, enthusiasm and natural artistic freedom is miles more suited to a new arts celebration than the twee, fur coat/nae knickers establishment of Edinburgh. Come on you Weegies get voting!

Let's not kid ourselves, Edinburgh is the cultural
centre of Scotland irrespective of what silly political titles have been bestowed on Glasgow.

I think that Edinburgh being the Capital is the best location, even though Perth might be better!

I don't think it should be anywhere. Utter waste of money IMHO.

paisley-the town is dying on its feet, and needs help.
for scotlands number one town to be in such a state is terrible.
and perhaps putting the luvie manderins there will inject reality into their work.

Broxburn. Bring it to Broxburn.

If its cited in Paisley then it should be amusing to see the Luvvies rolling up in bullet proof limos, clad in metal helmets and flak jackets (the luvvies that is, not the limos).

Obviously any culture body should be located within Edinburgh, despite Glasgow's strengths, however with the Executive busy asset stripping the capital and carrying its public sector loot out West, I think the clever money knows on who to bet.

The fact is Edinburgh has been trading on a status and reputation it acquired centuries ago and it is the capital only due to being the seat of government (big wow!).

Meanwhile, back in the real (i.i. non-tartan and shortbread) world the real capital of Scotland continues to regenerate itself and leave the official 'capital' in its shadow....and don't they just hate that fact over in the second largest city of Scotland, Edwin's borough! (note the English spelling of borough, deliberate).

Dear Fraser

Good job you are in singapore since Paisley is dying on its feet.

Are not the Alexander brothers, Wendy and Douglas representing Paisley?

Why aren't they doing more, don't the brothers Grimm (Alexander)not care?

I forgot, Paisley is the place, they use to collect Westminster and Holyrood wonga!!!!!!!!

yours sincerely

Arts and culture in Edinburgh are working together in a strategic and interconnected way to the benefit of the whole of Scotland, and Creative Scotland needs to be part of that nexus.
