Piers Sellers Returns to Earth After Successful NASA Mission
A man who became only the third Briton in space has said he was stunned to be back on Earth after an 11-day mission. Piers Sellers, originally from Crowborough, East Sussex, and the crew of the space shuttle Atlantis landed at Kennedy Space Centre in Florida at about 4.45pm UK time yesterday. Along with five other astronauts, he has been on a NASA mission to continue construction on the International Space Station. The 47-year-old followed in the steps of Helen Sharman and Michael Foale by launching into orbit last week. Sellers spent about 20 hours walking in space. Sellers said: 'I feel physically tired, mentally a little tired. I'm stunned and still dazzled by the whole experience.' Sellers's wife Mandy and son Tom watched the landing from the Kennedy Space Centre. Sellers's father-in-law Philip Lomas, 71, from Hebden Bridge, said: 'The only thing with this mission is the English language does not have enough words. Apart from awesome and wow there isn't any way to describe what is happening.'
